40 Years Later: Charity Concerts Still Outperform Government Alerts

It's been 40 years since a superstar concert aimed to stop the Ethiopian famine and somehow spawned the US program FEWS NET, designed 'to prevent future famines.' Because nothing says 'learning from history' like turning a one-hit social justice wonder into a surveillance system for deserts. As we look back, itās hard not to appreciate that while music raised the funds, FEWS NET raised the bar on famine early warnings. Clearly, in the battle against hunger, pop stars and data scientists teamed up before it was cool.
