Russia Runs Out of Jet Fuel, Buys Gasoline on Black Market Like Your Cousin Jim

KEY POINTS

  • Ukraine claimed its drones and cruise missiles severely damaged Russian refineries, cutting jet fuel production significantly.
  • As a result, Russia banned exporting its own aviation fuel and started importing 70,000 tonnes from South Korea and Egypt.
  • Ukrainian President Zelenskyy promised to continue targeting Russia’s energy sector to halt the war machine.

Ukraine’s military intelligence bragged this weekend that their pinpoint drone and missile strikes have so thoroughly gassed Russia’s oil-refining empire that Moscow now imports jet fuel, buying a suspicious 70,000 tonnes from South Korea and Egypt via shadowy tankers playing hide-and-seek around Western sanctions. Russia, the “energy superpower” that boasts about scraps it scrapes up, slapped a temporary export ban on its own aviation fuel because apparently flying bombers and commercial planes is now like competing for public Wi-Fi. Zelenskyy boasts nearly 40% of Russia’s primary refineries are offline, while Kyiv’s homemade drones buzz up to 1,800 miles to whack targets with surgical precision—bet those fuel injections can’t dodge the homemade cruise missiles.
