On March 22, 22-year-old Ithaca College student Jack Cabot was minding his own business on the ill-fated Air Canada Flight AC8646 from Calgary to LaGuardia via Montreal, delayed so long it made Ancient Egypt look punctual. After some 'pretty bad turbulence,' the plane landed like a toddler throwing a tantrum, hard enough to cause a collision and a cacophony of bangs seconds later. Passengers screamed, faces gashed, and a wall of mangled metal greeted the terrified crowd. Cabot, perched by an emergency exit, evacuated via a 4-5 foot wing jump—basically an unexpected parkour moment. After a 3-4 hour airport bus captivity and headcounts worthy of a prison roll call, Jack got roadside cuddles from his brother by 4:30 a.m. Despite it all, he vows to get back on planes, convinced frequent flights are better therapy than binge-watching true crime documentaries.
