World Athletics Adds Gene Testing To Sports, Because Why Not?

In a move that sounds like science fiction but is actually happening, World Athletics is now requiring female athletes to take a gene test to qualify for the female category. Setting a strict deadline of September 1 for the Tokyo Championships, officials stated, 'All athletes must comply with the gene eligibility criteria to compete.' Apparently, running fast isnât enough; now you gotta prove your DNA isnât on the wrong team. Which begs the question: are they checking for speed genes or a sci-fi scriptwriterâs imagination?
