Remember when gaming's grand battlefield was called the 'console wars'? Sony’s PlayStation and PlayStation 2 pummeled Sega, Nintendo, and Microsoft so hard that each sold over 100 million consoles — yes, that’s a hundred million little boxes invading living rooms worldwide! This booming chaos sparked a virtuous cycle of selling more consoles, which magically led to selling more games and sucked in developers like moths to a screen glow. Sony’s monopoly on your couch cushions basically redefined profitable addiction between roughly 1994 and the mid-2000s, leaving Sega in the dust and Microsoft nervously plotting Xbox’s revenge. Ah, nostalgia, pixelated but profitable!
