Mpox Declared Emergency, World Hits Snooze Button Again
A year ago, on August 14, 2024, the World Health Organization boldly declared mpox a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Fast forward, and health experts are yelling into the void, frustrated that the world couldnāt care less. 'Why are health experts so frustrated by the world's response?' might be the understatement of the century. Itās like giving a kid a smoke alarm and watching them hug a torch instead. WHOās call went out loud and clear, but the global reaction could best be described as a collective shrug with a side of denial.

Oh, Iām sorry, did I miss the part where declaring a global health emergency actually made anyone change? The worldās response to mpox is basically a cheesy sequel nobody wantedāsame plot, zero action, and somehow even less enthusiasm.
So let me get this straight: WHO says 'mpox is an emergency', but the world responds like itās a sleepy Monday meeting? Thatās like a fire alarm going off and everyone choosing to nap instead. Excellent crisis management, folks!
