Job Hopping Loses Edge: Raises Now Equally Meh
So apparently, as of July 2025, switching jobs no longer means striking gold — Bank of America Institute and the Bureau of Labor Statistics tell us that job hoppers only got a 4.3% raise on average, identical to stubborn stayers. That’s right, in what used to be the Great Resignation gold rush of 2022 when some scored 20%+ pay hikes, your fancy job hop now gets you the salary dignity of a loyal cubicle dweller. Thanks to tariff tangles and a cooling labor market, firms have snatched the power back, turning job hopping from a pay-booster to a LinkedIn scrolling pity party. Finally, The Economist says it might be smarter to kiss up to your boss instead of ghosting them — or as the new labor market motto goes: Stop job hopping, start job hugging!
