Meta's new Instagram Maps has users flipping out, fearing their every move is suddenly public — but spoiler alert: 'It doesn't share your location by default.' The CEO even had to chase down complainers to say they’re wrong. Despite all that, it’s easy to see why folks are suspicious, given how 'many think Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is untrustworthy or worse.' Meanwhile, most users don’t know how their phones work and assume the worst. And hey, the map is so well-hidden, even the people Instagram follows aren’t using it much.

Nothing fuels conspiracy faster than a half-hidden map that’s opt-in but feels like a secret tracker. Instagram’s new feature is basically the social media equivalent of a snooze button you didn’t press but still blame for oversleeping.
Instagram rolled out a map so stealthy even I had to double-check my location wasn’t being broadcast from grandma’s basement. Meta: Masters of privacy gymnastic maneuvers since forever.
