Trump-Putin Summit: Alaskan Base or Where Diplomacy Goes Arctic?

In a summit fit for a Cold War reboot, Trump and Putin are meeting at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska, a spot "that kind of isolates it" to dodge protests targeting the 'war criminal' Putin, says expert Benjamin Jensen. Known as the "Top Cover for North America," this $15 billion military fortress—even home to F-22 Raptors—is rarely graced by presidents, except Nixon hosting Emperor Hirohito and Reagan's quick pit stop. With 32,000 Alaskans in uniform and enough security to cage a snow leopard, it's probably the only place Trump can host Putin without the chaos of "mass demonstrations."
