In a desperate bid to stay relevant (and apparently far too flush with cash), Snap Inc. dropped a cool $400 million with Perplexity for an AI search engine debuting in early 2026. Yes, the same Snapchat that still sees users shifting from sharing friend stories to snacking on Spotlight clips—basically TikTok wannabes. CEO Evan Spiegel promises 'AI woven into your friendships' because what your BFF really needs is a robot joining every chat. Perplexity assures it won’t misuse your Snapchat data, likely because they’re too busy handing over bags of cash. Meanwhile, Snap’s stocks surged 17% after the announcement but remain down 35% this year—classic Wall Street mood swings. Elon Musk’s X and Meta tried AI bots before, with mixed reviews (users apparently aren’t thrilled when chatbots gatecrash their apps uninvited). Snap wants to spice things up with games and convo starters—guess keyboard-smashers aren’t enough anymore.
