60 Years of Riots: Poverty’s Eternal Block Party!

This is SO exciting! The 60th anniversary of the Watts uprising reminds us that problems like poverty and racial injustice just love a long, dramatic encore. With over 1,000 injuries and $40 million in property damage, it was a blockbuster rebellion! Yet activists remain hopeful, pushing for the solutions from the '1968 Kerner Report' that 'recommends a slew of initiatives.' At least now, we get to throw a sequel with 'Creating Justice in a Multiracial Democracy'—because nothing says progress like 60 years of persistent poverty. As Alan Curtis said, 'Today, we have so much information on how market fundamentalism hasn’t worked.' What a blessing!
