67 Containers Debut Swim Meet at Port of Long Beach
On September 9, 2025, Long Beach’s Port got an unexpected aquatic spectacle when 67 containers from the Portugal-flagged, one-year-old 837-foot ship Mississippi toppled into the water shortly after docking from Yantian, China. This cargo slip ‘n slide, captured via ABC Los Angeles helicopter footage, featured partially submerged shoes and clothes frolicking freely in Long Beach’s $300 billion annual shipping playground. No injuries thankfully, but one can only wonder how those 73 gantry cranes felt watching containers lean like they're auditioning for a modern art exhibit. Port reps stayed mum, possibly drafting their next cover-up or visit to the crisis yoga class.
