Russia’s Missile Party Crashers Invited, UN Hits Snooze

On August 31, 2025, while the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit was living its best life in Tianjin, with over 20 world leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi cozying up, the UN Security Council was busy playing the world's most awkward emergency intervention. After a stealthy overnight missile and drone attack by Russia wiped out more than 20 Ukrainians between Wednesday and Thursday, the US threw down a classic ultimatum: meet Ukraine for peace talks or get the global sanctions hammer slammed on your fridge door. Meanwhile, the summit probably paused its tea ceremony to mute notifications on its group chat.
