Israel Promises To Self-Restrain—Like A Toddler Near The Cookie Jar

KEY POINTS

  • Vice President Vance said Israel offered to limit strikes in Lebanon despite Iran expecting Lebanon included in the ceasefire talks.
  • Israeli forces conducted massive strikes with 50 jets and 160 munitions on April 7, killing over 80 and wounding 200 in Lebanon.
  • Iran threatened to withdraw from Saturday's US negotiations and possibly close the Strait of Hormuz if attacks continue in Lebanon.

On a Wednesday bombshell, Vice President Vance revealed Israel kindly offered to 'check themselves a bit' in Lebanon, apparently because they 'want to make sure negotiations with Iran succeed.' This offer came *not* from any ceasefire promise (which, hilariously, Iran assumed included Lebanon) but as a diplomatic 'please don't ruin our Saturday meet.' Meanwhile, Iran threatened to yank out of US talks and maybe close the Strait of Hormuz like a toddler slamming the door—all because 254 casualties, 50 jets dropping 160 munitions, and 6 miles of Israeli troops' deep dive into Lebanon seem to undersell restraint. Pakistani PM Sharif claimed the ceasefire applied 'everywhere, including Lebanon,' to which Netanyahu replied, 'Nope, not here.' Secretary Netanyahu and Trump apparently signed off on Lebanon chaos in a private call, prompting Egypt to accuse Israel of a 'premeditated' truce bombing. Meanwhile, Hezbollah’s firing back because 'right to respond' is very important, but peace talks better not include Lebanon, or all bets are off.
