Trump Fires Jobs Chief Because Numbers Weren't Cozy Enough

In a plot twist no economist saw coming, President Trump fired Bureau of Labor Statistics chief Erika McEntarfer after July's job numbers did a nosedive and data revisions looked like they had been on a bender. National Economic Council director Kevin Hassett said the data became 'very unreliable' and that revisions were 'five times bigger than the number itself.' Yet, William Beach, a former BLS head under Trump himself, insisted there’s 'no way for' the numbers to be rigged, reminding us the only stats getting cooked here might be Trump's ego. As Sen. Cynthia Lummis put it, firing Erika was 'kind of impetuous,' but hey, who trusts stats when Twitter exists?
