At UBS's Global Technology and AI Conference this Wednesday, Uber's CFO Prashanth Mahendra-Rajah dropped the bombshell that only about 15% of US adults have ever used Uber for rides or deliveries — a shocker given that the company was born here and apparently isn’t actually everywhere. Investors, who believe their own kids couldn't possibly Uber Eats more than they're currently doing, are apparently unicorn exceptions. Uber is now chasing bets on sleepy suburbs and sprawling rural towns for growth, where trips stretch longer and patience wears thin, while also flirting with Costco runs and supermarket deliveries. Meanwhile, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is herding PhD-wielding AI contractors into 'Project Sandbox,' only to pull the plug early, proving even tech gig platforms have commitment issues.
