Uber Goes From Wheels To Pixels: Drivers Train AI, Not Cars

Uber just upgraded its gig hustle with 'Digital Tasks,' a pilot launching in the US that lets drivers earn cash by snapping photos and uploading audio clips to train AI models. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi promised more cash 'during downtime,' because apparently your steering wheel hours aren’t unsafe enough without adding phone tasks. This AI-training gig, previously a hit in India, arrives just as Uber tests self-driving Waymo cars from Atlanta to Austin—ushering in the robot driver apocalypse. Bonus points for the throwback: two years ago Uber was trying to play TaskRabbit by offering furniture assembly assistance in Florida and Alberta. Now you can build IKEA furniture, drive rides, or click pics for AI, whichever pays your bills while robots learn the ropes.
