The crackdown is in tribute to Katie Abraham, a 20-year-old Illinois woman tragically hit in a drunken HBONightmare hit-and-run, with the perp a 29-year-old undocumented Guatemalanâthe DHSâs way of saying, âCrimeâs here because Gov. JB Pritzker, a proud Democrat, made Chicago a sanctuary city.â Pritzker fired back on X, accusing Trump of scaring Illinoisians more than aiding them, and Johnson warned against turning Chicago streets into ICEâs battleground, citing past ICE antics of deporting American citizens like surprise party crashers. The White House and Homeland Security ghosted Axiosâs questions, presumably busy plotting their next unmannered sneak attack.
