On a Monday straight out of 2025’s diplomatic handbook for how to NOT announce important stuff, the Trump administration dropped 'Operation Midway Blitz' on Chicago without so much as a ‘hey neighbor.’ Mayor Brandon Johnson, who apparently missed the RSVP, said he got zero notice. The crackdown is in tribute to Katie Abraham, a 20-year-old Illinois woman tragically hit in a drunken HBONightmare hit-and-run, with the perp a 29-year-old undocumented Guatemalan—the DHS’s way of saying, ‘Crime’s here because Gov. JB Pritzker, a proud Democrat, made Chicago a sanctuary city.’ Pritzker fired back on X, accusing Trump of scaring Illinoisians more than aiding them, and Johnson warned against turning Chicago streets into ICE’s battleground, citing past ICE antics of deporting American citizens like surprise party crashers. The White House and Homeland Security ghosted Axios’s questions, presumably busy plotting their next unmannered sneak attack.
