Trump's 100% Movie Tariff: Hollywood Says Sayonara, Box Office
President Donald Trump, on a Monday presumably fueled by pure cinematographic patriotism, pledged to slap a 100% tariff on foreign-made moviesâbecause nothing says 'Make Movies Great Again' like doubling the price of international popcorn flicks. Announced vaguely in May and now reiterated without a clear game plan, this tariff threatens to disrupt the entertainment industry so thoroughly that nobody knows whether producers, distributors, or confused theater ushers will foot the extravagant bill. Trump claimed that the film biz has been 'stolen' from the U.S., which sounds like a totally new Hollywood blockbuster plot, just missing the sequel, 'Tariff Wars: Return of the Red Tape.' As of now, the when and how remain mysteriousâbecause nobody ever wants clarity when imposing 100% tariffs on cinema.
