President Trump has officially out-shutdown'd Jimmy Carter, racking up an eye-popping 57 days of government shutdown chaos across two terms—36 of those just in his first go-round. Carter managed 56 days over five shutdowns, proving patience is a virtue Trump skipped like his morning briefing. The latest shutdown kicked off Oct. 1, after Congress flunked the last-minute budget test on Sept. 30. Democrats threw down hard for Affordable Care Act tax credits and a Medicaid undo of Trump-era cuts, while Trump allegedly used the downtime to chop agencies and usher out federal workers like an HR nightmare on steroids. Flashback to 2019, when Trump vowed to slam the government closed for "years" for a wall, then fizzled out settling for a quick reopen sans border cash. Shutdown stats have become the new presidential flex, apparently.
