Trumpās Tariffs: 10% Anger Tax, Discount Edition
President Trump just confirmed that starting Friday, imports will face a 'tariff rate of 10%' ā the global baseline he promised would stay put, much to the relief of those who braced for a scary 20%. The government, after dragging its feet for months, published a list with rates for about 70 countries, lowering some from the April charges to a more 'friendly' 15%. Switzerland and Congo got a wake-up call with hikes, while everyone else is stuck with the 10% 'everyone gets a participation trophy' rate. As Axios put it, 'The baseline tariffs went into and stayed in effect, but the reciprocal tariffs were paused. Those are mostly resuming Friday.' Who knew global trade was just a very slow game of tariff whack-a-mole?
