IRS Leadership Turnover: Musical Chairs with Paychecks

In 2025, the IRS has had six different leaders in just half a year, with Billy Long, the latest, lasting less than two months before saying he was off to be Ambassador to Iceland. As Long cheerfully emailed staff to 'take off work early on Fridays,' turnover hit more than 25,000 employees too. Former IRS commissioner Danny Werfel quit days before Trump took office even though his term ran until 2027, setting the tone for a revolving door. Treasury's Scott Bessent now takes the wheel, riding shotgun on a rollercoaster of chaos.
