Only in America could redistricting get turbocharged mid-decade thanks to Trump pushing Texas Republicans to redraw maps that might net them five extra seats. Meanwhile, Democrats like California Governor Gavin Newsom scramble to punch back with special elections and fast amendments because, in the game of political chess, every move is somehow a checkmate waiting to happen. Back in my day, we called this just good old-fashioned politicking, not a midterm map meltdown.
