Trump’s $100K H-1B Visa Fee: Paying For Innovation… Or Extortion?

On September 19, 2025, President Trump dropped a bombshell — a $100,000 fee to hire foreign workers under the H-1B visa program, just to spice up American innovation by making employers weep. This ‘‘draconian’’ and ‘‘extortionate’’ move triggered a federal showdown as a California healthcare recruiting firm, Global Nurse Force, managers unions, nonprofits, and even religious groups teamed up to sue the administration. They argue the Prez can’t just print fees like Monopoly money since the Constitution says Congress controls the cash cow. Trump promised to use the dough to ‘‘reduce taxes and debt’’ which somehow turns fees into magical money. Meanwhile, Silicon Valley freaked out, rushing H-1B workers stranded overseas to buzz back ASAP. Surprisingly, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang gave it a thumbs-up, calling it a ‘‘move that’s good for the nation’s future.’' Somewhere Congress is double-checking they’re still on the payroll.
