SSA Swears NUMIDENT’s Safe—Whistleblower Swears Otherwise

On an undisclosed date in 2024, the Social Security Administration (SSA) confidently told the Senate that the NUMIDENT database is as secure as a frat house basement door, despite shadowy whistleblower allegations swirling around it. NUMIDENT is the mystical vault holding Americans' Social Security info, which according to the SSA, has barely escaped catastrophic breaches—yet some insider claims suggest it might be as vulnerable as your password on 'password123'. The whistleblowers, playing the role of modern-day Cassandra, dragged their concerns to Senate ears. The SSA, in turn, reassured everyone with just the right amount of bureaucratic cool, signaling 'trust us, we’ve got this.' Spoiler: trust isn’t the default setting here.
