Bill, Lisa & Their 2009 Music Factory: Chicago Hits or Misses?
Photo by Jason Leung on Unsplash
In the year of questionable fashion and questionable financial decisions (2009), Bill and Lisa Roe decided Chicago needed a music label. Naturally, they founded one. They didn't stop there; they arrogantly signed musical geniuses like Mikal Cronin, the Tubs, and Dummy — because naming a band Dummy is peak indie confidence. This label isn’t just a startup; it’s a microcosm of 2009’s musical chaos and ambition bundled in one Chicago package. Somewhere in this, Bill and Lisa are probably wondering if signing Dummy was irony or prophecy. Reminder: We’re all terrible drivers of our own careers, especially in music.
