In a meteorological tag team nobody asked for, Tropical Storm Imelda popped up Sunday just as Hurricane Humberto was hogging the Atlantic spotlight, aiming to rain on the Carolinas' parade with 2-4 inches of rain and flash floods by Tuesday. National Hurricane Center's deputy director Jamie Rhome kindly reminded us all via Facebook video (because where else?) that even if Imelda’s U.S. impact is 'coming down,' it’s not zero — spoiler, it’ll still dunk South Carolina to parts of coastal North Carolina with up to 6 inches of water, causing minor flooding and high rip current risks stretching from southern Florida to the Outer Banks. Experts suggest swimming near lifeguards unless you want to impersonate a soggy rubber duck. Climate change, of course, cheered Imelda and Humberto on from the sidelines, boosting hurricane intensity while we watch. Grab your floaties—2025's hurricane party isn’t over yet.
