Uber Finally Lets Women Choose Women, Males Panic

In a surprising industry wake-up call, Uber now lets women riders request women drivers—years after HERide quietly launched the same service in Atlanta. HERide cofounder Jillian Anderson asked, 'Why haven’t they implemented anything like this?' Anderson's startup guarantees female drivers and rejects Uber's 'increasing your chances' half-measure. HERide also prioritizes fair pay and even coded its own fare estimator, emphasizing, 'If we're paying them a fair wage, we’ll stay competitive.' Meanwhile, Uber hopes to keep up by piloting a feature long overdue for women who’ve endured 'off-app ride' requests and unsolicited numbers from male drivers.
