Delta Drops 708 Flights Because Controllers Ghost Work
In a plot twist even Kafka would envy, the FAA mandated a 10% service cut at 40 major US airports amid a government shutdown slipping into its 41st day. Thousands of flights canceled starting November Friday, stacking up to 4,374 grounded bird-chariots. Delta took the crown of shame with 708 cancellations â roughly 14% of its schedule lost to phantom air traffic controllers either on sick leave or unpaid protest. American and United followed with 565 and 418 canceled flights, respectively, as Southwest could only muster 102 cancellations (2%), maybe because theyâve barely got anywhere to go. The lawmakers finally convened Sunday for a rare debate session, but customer refunds and reroutes remain the dayâs true silver lining.
