Matthew Straight and April Pasilang bailed on the nonstop honking of Cebu City for a quiet life on Bohol island, where their new off-grid home cost about $85,000 and includes a pond and veggie garden. Straight noted, 'We don’t want to be at the whim of global supply chain issues,' which, judging by city traffic noise, sounded like a valid plot twist. Pasilang beams, 'We just decide what to do based on what needs to be done in the garden,' trading rush-hour madness for eggplants and okra. Basically, they swapped the urban nightmare for a sleep-in, grow-your-own paradise.
