Housing Wars: Tim Scott and Elizabeth Warren’s Homework Fail

Welcome to America's housing circus where Tim Scott (R-SC) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) lead the Senate's half-hearted attempts to un-mess the mess. States like Oregon, thanks to Tina Kotek, tried banning single-family zoning back in 2019, but let’s not get too wild—only two units per lot, no mansions. Meanwhile, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s New York dreams of 800,000 homes blew up in 2023 from suburban tantrums in Westchester and Hudson Valley, basically Democrats fearing domestic suburban terrorists with picket signs. Arizona’s Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed a starter home bill for 'unintended consequences' that remain classified. At the federal level? Feds mostly dish out grants or staffing, still afraid to play the big zoning boss. And while Senators wink at the ROAD to Housing Act, expect more polite coughs than construction cranes.
