Trump Brokers Gaza Deal: Hostages for 1,700 Prisoners, Rubble Included

In a master class of geopolitical unlikely partnerships, Donald Trump flew into a hellscape called Gaza on October 13, 2025, to headline a prisoner swap extravaganza. Hamas finally freed 20 surviving Israeli hostages abducted during their October 7, 2023 rocket-powered surprise party—lethally crashing 1,200 civilians and making off with 250 people to Gaza. Israel, in return, released a whopping 1,700 Palestinian prisoners, presumably to spread joy and chaos alike. The bombed-out Gaza Strip — formerly a crowded two-million-resident strip of land, now mostly rubble with a 70% building demolition rate — was the collateral. Trump hailed the deal as a 'transformational moment' while Netanyahu reportedly had Trump strong-arm him harder than a bad billiards match. Meanwhile, the UN calls it genocide, the ICC slapped Netanyahu with charges, and some ex-generals whisper that Israel singlehandedly trashed counterinsurgency doctrines by ignoring all the 'hold, build, protect' parts. Moral of the story: brutal wars are messy, but hey, at least Trump's back on the international stage hammering peace with bull-in-a-china-shop flair.
