Tesla Robotaxis Get License, Still Not Actually Driving Themselves
In a shocking turn of events, Tesla Robotaxi just secured a Texas permit to operate a driverless ride-hailing service, even though it’s not technically classified as 'autonomous.' As the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation puts it, the permit 'only allows a company to use automated motor vehicles for a commercial ride-hailing service.' Tesla’s robotaxis are officially guest-starring in the Lone Star State’s new legal dance with driverless cars. One spokesperson deadpanned, 'Tesla moved forward with the launch since the state law had yet to go into effect,' proving that laws are just friendly suggestions when robots want to hustle rides.
