On Red Cup Day 2025, thousands of Starbucks baristas staged their fourth strike since Brian Niccol took over as CEO in September 2024, disrupting the sacred ritual of free reusable cups and record sales spikes of 42.4%. More than 65 stores in 40 US cities joined the caffeine mutiny, with over 550 unionized locations ready to swarm if talks remain frozen. Meanwhile, Starbucks announced a $1 billion overhaul that shuttered 600+ stores and axed 900 non-retail jobs, probably while Niccol’s $100 million paycheck inspired a corporate latte swirl. Senators led by Bernie Sanders wrote him letters, insisting the coffee giant can afford a fair contract despite its stock dropping 5%. Barista Dachi Spoltore boldly dubbed the moment the 'Red Cup Rebellion,' pleading for customers to honor picket lines because apparently caffeine withdrawal and corporate riffraff aren’t a great combo.
