Apparently, Uralvagonzavod, the Kremlin’s one-stop tank shop, has been hoarding American vertical lathes and German machining centers since before sanctions kicked in (AKA the 15-year "pre-sanction shopping spree"). Putin chewed over the shortage of tanks in April 2024, even as Medvedev paid his plant visits like a slightly less popular sequel. Russia’s tank army depends on Western tech so much it’s basically the Cold War’s weirdest Amazon order ever.
