National Guard’s New Job: Extra Security for Trump’s Crime Crackdown

In a move that sounds like a plot twist from a political thriller, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth authorized National Guard troops in D.C. to start carrying weapons Sunday night as part of President Trump's crime crackdown. The Joint Task Force-DC assured us "force is only to be used as a last resort," probably meaning only if someone messes with their Starbucks. About 2,000 troops from D.C. and GOP-led states are posted outside Union Station armed with M4 carbines and M17 pistols, proudly keeping the streets 'SAFER' according to the Defense Department’s rapid response team.
