Nepal’s Social Media Ban Turns Deadly: Tweets Must’ve Killed 19

On the apparently obvious date of a Tuesday—because chaos loves weekdays—Nepal’s government decided social media was too much cyber noise and slapped a ban on all platforms. Naturally, the citizens of Nepal didn’t just tweet angry emojis; they protested en masse, which the police responded to with a hailstorm of bullets, tragically killing 19 souls. Less than 48 hours later, having realized killing protestors didn’t quiet the buzz any more than an iPhone with no Wi-Fi, officials lifted the ban. So apparently, Nepal learned that killing people is a terrible strategy for calming internet outrage, which, shocker: spreads faster than Himalaya rumors.
