Kids Hustle Calves & Oil Changes in Alberta's Chore Olympics

Since 2010, Billi J. Miller's daughters—aged 12 and 13—have mastered the gritty art of morning farm life on a cattle and grain farm in east-central Alberta, Canada, never knowing anything softer than rubber boots and pails instead of cereal bowls. Their AMs involve bottle-feeding first-time mothering-challenged calves pre-school bus run, with occasional calf kidnappings indoors to dodge Canadian cold. Beyond calving chaos and snow-covered grass dilemmas, the girls get crash courses in machinery watching, oil changes (Dad-approved), and mastering the fine art of 'work ethic'—including postponing Christmas gift-opening till cow-feeding duty is done. Because nothing says festive spirit like waiting for Dad's bovine round!
