Tesla’s Robotaxis Ditch Drivers, Keep Kill Switches Intact

In a move that screams 'what could possibly go wrong?', Tesla CEO Elon Musk confidently declared in a 2025 Q2 earnings call that by the end of the year, robotaxis in Austin—yes, Austin, where anything can happen—will be running around with zero safety drivers. Musk bragged about launching robotaxi services in 8 to 10 new markets by December 31, 2025, because apparently meeting minimum plausible safety standards is so last decade. These robo-cabs still have safety monitors with kill switch access, because putting full trust into AI on streets that remember disco is reassuring, right? We're all just here praying they don’t confuse rules of the road with episode plots of Black Mirror.
