Late on a Friday that wasn’t supposed to matter, giants Sony Music and Warner Music kicked off a legal remix in northern California, suing Anthropic, AI CEO Dario Amodei, and co-founder Benjamin Mann for allegedly running a pirating party bigger than Napster’s heyday. The 48-page complaint accuses Anthropic of illegally torrenting thousands of copyrighted songs to train their Claude AI, demanding hundreds of thousands per stolen work like it’s a Grammy fee. Anthropic already shelled out a historic $1.5 billion in September 2025 to authors for similar AI copyright drama. Like a DJ who just can’t stop scratching, the music world is dropping the needle on this fight that’s sure to drop beats... eventually.
