Mike Johnson’s House Shutdown: “Why Even Show Up?” Edition

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has mastered the art of corporal absence by shutting down the idea of bringing the House back before the Senate passes a government funding bill. Since Sept. 19, the House hasn’t voted on anything except a clean continuing resolution extending funding to Nov. 21. Johnson dismissed calling them back as a 'futile exercise,' claiming Chuck Schumer would mock and spike any new measure faster than a TikTok trend dies. Despite warnings of an oncoming funding cliff, Johnson insists the House 'had done its job' and that 'it doesn’t matter what we do.' Even GOP lawmakers are throwing shade, frustrated by this extended DC chill session disguised as governance. Meanwhile, the Senate’s own failure streak has hit week 14, making this the political equivalent of watching two spiders fight over a crumb, not planning to clean up anytime soon.
