Iran Executes Members of Banned Group, Still Can't Bury Their Problems
KEY POINTS
- •Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps said they were combing near a recent plane crash site in southwestern Iran.
- •On Saturday, Iran executed two men convicted of being in the banned People’s Mujahedin of Iran group.
- •These executions followed four earlier death sentences of MEK members that were carried out earlier in the week.
On a Saturday night that definitely didn't involve Netflix, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps went full CSI mode searching near the downed plane site in southwest Iran—because if there’s one thing better than mystery wreckage, it’s a mystery wreckage hunt. Meanwhile, the judiciary quietly announced it had executed two fellows guilty of being part of the banned People’s Mujahedin of Iran (MEK), a group the state clearly treats like expired milk—keep it out of sight and toss it when it smells funny. These executions followed another batch of four fresh MEK members who met the same fate earlier in the week, proving that Iran is running a grim 'buy one, get four free' deal on political punishments. Guess the opposition really can't catch a break—or a break in the legal system.
