Zuck Bleeds $29B While Pumping AI with Meta Cash
Mark Zuckerberg's wallet just got a brutal AI makeover: he dropped $29.2 billion overnight after Meta's Q3 earnings spooked investors, tumbling him from 3rd to 5th richest on Bloomberg's Billionaires Index with a $235B balance. Meanwhile, Alphabet's Larry Page laughed all the way up to $244B on a 2.5% stock rise, fueled by Google Cloud and Search boosts, while Amazon's Jeff Bezos got $6.6B chipped off but still saw Amazon stock jump 13%. Meta's AI shopping spree isn’t cheap, with a ballooning $70-72B capital expenditure forecast for 2025, headed even higher in 2026 as Meta Superintelligence Labs beef up their AI armies. When JPMorgan’s Doug Anmuth grilled Zuck about these skyscraper costs, Zuck shrugged, saying overspending was 'smart' and better than being the poor kid at the AI party. Meta shares plunged nearly 11% by Thursday, with Microsoft also sweating after dropping 3%, highlighting that the AI hype train may be running out of steam faster than your last 'AI-powered' chatbot attempt.
