Meta’s AI Talent War: Mark’s Billion-Dollar Babysitting Gig
Meta just turbo-charged the AI talent war by poaching Shengjia Zhao, a ChatGPT co-creator, as its Superintelligence Labs chief scientist. CEO Mark Zuckerberg is on a "multibillion-dollar AI spending spree" that includes sitting on the coolest new toybox, freshly funded with $15 billion. As OpenAI CEO Sam Altman calls these "giant offers" "crazy," Meta apparently thinks WiFi and Zuckerberg’s home invites make up for actual culture. DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis said it’s "probably rational" because Meta’s "behind and they need to do something." At least now the war for AI prodigies looks more like a billion-dollar episode of a talent Olympics!
