Meta’s AI Squad: New Boss, Same Mad Scientist Drama
Meta just dropped an AI squad shake-up worthy of a tech soap opera. Shengjia Zhao, co-creator of ChatGPT, officially became chief scientist of Meta's Superintelligence Labs, working "directly with me and Alex," says Zuckerbot himself. Meanwhile, Yann LeCun, Meta's long-standing AI wizard, clarifies on LinkedIn his role and FAIR's mission are "unchanged," staying focused on building the next AI paradigms. So while Zuckerberg recruits like he's the AI talent Santa Claus, LeCun will keep tinkering in the lab, developing a "world model" to eventually dethrone large language models. Superintelligence Labs and FAIR: the AI version of an extended family reunion with overlapping titles but everyone insists they're still CEO.
