  • Khan highlighted Mamdani’s individual authority to sue corporate lawbreakers via the NYC Department of Consumer and Work Protection.
  • The team aims to tackle issues like rent, childcare, and economic fairness away from big corporate influence.

Lina Khan, fresh from chairing the FTC (where she made Big Tech squirm over Amazon Prime and Meta acquisitions), has joined Zohran Mamdani’s NYC mayoral transition team starting January 2026. Mamdani is the city’s first Muslim mayor and youngest in a century, winning despite a billionaires’ anti-Mamdani money shower backing Cuomo. Khan explained that, among NYC’s arsenal, Mamdani’s got a 'stand-alone authority' to sue corporate gremlins through the DCWP — a department ambitiously named Department of Consumer and Work Protection, because obviously the city needs a department to remind business who they’re supposed to play nice with. Khan praised plans on rent, childcare, and buses, while roasting oversized corporate puppeteers who apparently spent millions on candidates only to get a big fat nope from New Yorkers.
