Trump’s Justice System Playbook: Fire The Prosecutor, Hire Your Lawyer

In the latest installment of 'Legal Circus: Political Edition,' NY Attorney General Letitia James pleaded not guilty on Oct. 24 to federal bank fraud charges about allegedly cooking bank statements to get better mortgage deals on a second home in Norfolk, VA. This mess comes after the Federal Housing Finance Agency's April referral and a Virginia grand jury indictment this month. The plot thickens as Trump publicly demanded her prosecution, canned U.S. attorney Erik Siebert for not playing ball, and then installed Lindsey Halligan, his personal lawyer and prosecutorial newbie, to chase James. James calls it political payback after she hammered Trump with a $364M civil fines—later tossed out on appeal. Trial's set for Jan. 26, expecting about a week of courtroom drama that sounds more like a Netflix series pitch than justice.
