Korean Air Drops $36B On Boeing, US Jobs Get Avocado Toast

In a historic booty call to Boeing worthy of a soap opera, Korean Air just copped 103 planes for a whopping $36.2 billion, aka 70 trillion South Korean won, set to touchdown by 2030. This airborne bonanza includes 20 beefy 777-9s, 25 svelte 787-10s, 50 slightly less glamorous 737-10s, and 8 freighters for when Korean Air feels nostalgic about cargo. CEO Walter Cho and Boeing’s Stephanie Pope sealed the deal in Washington, D.C., watched closely by US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick (yes, not a typo). This deal supposedly supports 135,000 US jobs — enough to keep avocado toast sales booming stateside. Plus, Korean Air splurged $690 million on 19 spare engines and a 20-year, $13 billion engine maintenance love pact with GE Aerospace. CEO Cho, who's also the big boss at Korean Air's parent, Hanjin Group, says this is all about conquering the Americas like a mildly aggressive space invader. Bonus: Korean Air recently gobbled up Asiana Airlines, so this mega order is their shiny merger trophy! Boeing, meanwhile, is riding this revenue rocket after an earlier wobbly sales spell and thanks very much for your support.
