Dryden: Six Rings, Eight Years, One Unfair Cancer Rival

Ken Dryden, the legendary goalie who backstopped the NHL's most championship-blessed franchise to six titles between 1970-71 and 1978-79, has sadly passed away after a battle with cancer. In just eight NHL seasons, Dryden went from goalie newbie to trophy magnet, collecting cups like most people collect parking tickets. His reign was so dominant, opponents probably wished the ice was infested with piranhas instead. As the 70s rolled on, Dryden’s career acted like a sprint relay—only with a puck, pads, and no running allowed. The poor guy fought cancer bravely, reminding us all that even legends can finally face the toughest goalie of all: mortality.
