In a political plot twist straight out of a spy novel, last month's Upper House election reportedly fell victim to the digital equivalent of gatecrashers: foreign actors spreading disinformation on social media. Officials sniffed out these online pirates behind 'the spread of disinformation on social media,' turning the democratic process into a chaotic game of digital whack-a-mole. One can only imagine these provocateurs sipping virtual piña coladas while planting fake news, proving once again that no election is complete without a plot twist worthy of a Netflix docuseries.
